Emotions are now «under observation» for many reasons by the most perceptive analysts and scholars from various disciplines, but also by newspaper columnists concerned, for instance, about the ways in which emotions are being dangerously and unscrupulously played upon by part of the contemporary political spectrum. Worthy of note among the latest scientific publications is a weighty volume by Jan Plamper dedicated to the history of emotions which is also extremely useful for a more general understanding of the emotions. The book is briefly reviewed in this article, particularly as regards its relevance for another interesting and youthful sub-discipline, the sociology of emotions.
